ON THE ROAD AGAIN 2019-2020

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

In 1971, a young Martha Davis joined The Warfield Foxes, a band from Berkeley California. In 1975 they moved to Los Angeles and changed the band name to The Motels.

The new name was inspired on the way to the band’s first show at Barney’s Beanery. Guitarist Dean Chamberlain noted the motor inns as they drove down Santa Monica Boulevard and suggested “What about The Motels?”

The band broke up then reformed in 1978 with guitarist Jeff Jourard who brought in his brother Marty on keyboards and saxophone. Michael Goodroe on bass and Brian Glascock on drums rounded out the quintet. This lineup played around L.A. for six months before signing with Capitol Records on May 13, 1979—Mother’s Day.

The Motels released five albums on Capitol Records between 1979 and 1985, two of them earning gold record status and generating two Top Ten singles, “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer.” When the band broke up in 1987 Martha released Policy, a solo album that charted in Australia.

After leaving Capitol Davis spent years working in different musical genres with multitudes of players. Recently it became apparent that one particular configuration generated the same feeling as the original band concept.

The new lineup includes guitarist Clint Walsh, drummer Eric Gardner bassist Nic Johns and as of 2011, original member Marty Jourard. Apocalypso, a previously unreleased version of 1982’s All Four One was released in 2011 on Omnivore Records, thirty years to the day after the intended original date.

In the Spring of 2018, the Motels released their most recent record The Last Few Beautiful Days.

Words Women and Wisdom Show Guest, Debra Poneman October 29, 2019
Speaker - Author - Success Icon

When Living Your Truth is Difficult - But You Do It Anyway

Debra began transforming lives in the 1970’s when she studied with some of the greatest spiritual masters of the east — often in deep meditation for 10 to 12 hours a day and complete silence for weeks at a time – and then taught meditation to thousands.

In the1980’s Debra immersed herself in the knowledge of the Masters of western metaphysical thought and founded Yes to Success Seminars bringing what were then considered radical ideas like "your thoughts create your reality" into the mainstream and teaching people around the world how to create outer success on a foundation of inner silence.

Debra’s students have used her teachings to become mega-successful entrepreneurs, renowned transformational leaders, NY Times bestselling authors, millionaires, billionaires—even household names. But Debra’s greatest gift is her deep belief in each person’s magnificence and their innate ability to live lives of not only success and abundance, but profound happiness, deep self-love and lasting inner fulfillment.

Life Changes Show Guest, Paul McCarty and Marina Gutman October 28, 2019
Musicians

PAUL MCCARTY and MARINA GUTMAN as NON DUO

Paul McCarty + Marina Gutman = Non Duo

Non Duo = Not Two… We are one.

Paul is from New Orleans (the swamp of the south) and Marina is from Moldova (the swamp of Europe). Their musical influences — gypsy/russian and cajun/rock — mix into an eclectic stew of styles. Their life stories and world views mix into a wild, poetic, non-dualistic brew of lyrics. Genres vary from bluegrass to ballads to folk to rock to who-knows-what-that-is. But always a different and memorable melody with haunting vocal harmonies. Cliches are shunned. Each song allowed to explore its own world.

Paul McCarty sings and plays guitar and harmonica. He was raised in a musical family in New Orleans. Son of a composer/music professor and a singer/voice teacher, he became a music composition major at Loyola University of New Orleans and has written some scores for independent films and other productions.More recently, Paul was frontman and the main songwriter for Wicked Saints, which recorded two albums, played around Los Angeles and toured some up the West Coast.

Marina Gutman is a singer and novelist, who writes her own songs.  Her musical education and aspirations came from her grandmother. She was born and raised in Moldova, a small eastern European country, and came to America at the age of eleven.Though her creative endeavors are influenced by her eastern European roots and American upbringing, she attributes her creativity to the Source of all creativity, and lives the philosophy of the beloved teacher Eckhart Tolle: “I am awareness, disguised as a person.”
