As a young girl, Heather Shapter had a dream of ending poverty. She started her first charity at age 17. She is now the Executive Director of Crossroads International, a 65-year-old organization that fights for the rights of girls and women.
This organization works with local partners to empower and educate girls and women. They are advocates for human rights and are impacting the culture, laws and futures of these people. They work in a way that the communities are educated and not threatened in order to create lasting change.
Heather's story is truly inspiring, courageous, and incredible. Her vision of ending poverty has driven her path in life - through the corporate world, entrepreneurship, and now to the not-for-profit world. She is a true visionary and is looking for people who are also called to make a difference.

Heather Shapter is the executive director of Crossroads International, which works with local partners in Sub-Saharan Africa to advance rights, reduce poverty and increase access to justice for one million women and girls. Heather is also the Chair of the Forum Board of Directors. Forum is the most significant global network of organizations that work with volunteers to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Heather has held leadership roles in some of the world’s most respected international non-governmental organizations, in the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. She lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband, Gerry and her two sons.
