A Special Communique from the Canadian Genocide Tribunal and the Republic of Kanata
November 9, 2021

Vancouver:

A hate-speaker who claims the genocide of native people never happened in Canada and that "there are no mass graves of residential school children" will speak at the University of BC campus on Wednesday, November 17.

Lauren Southern, an avowed hater of indigenous people, has been invited to speak at a public forum organized by a group called UBC Students for Freedom of Expression. Requests by native elders and other invited speakers to withdraw Ms. Southern from the speakers list have been flatly refused by the group.

In response, indigenous elders and residential school survivors will protest at the event and will sue the University of BC administration for damages if the event goes ahead as planned. Elders of the Squamish and Musqueam nations have stated as much in a letter sent today to UBC administrators.

To quote one of the elder's letters to UBC,

This is of great concern to us as it will be to any indigenous person that day, since among the other scheduled speakers is George Brown, a former RCMP officer and indigenous survivor of residential school tortures who, along with other survivors, will likely be triggered and re-traumatized by Ms. Southern's insensitive and uninformed remarks. In the past, survivors have committed suicide after being confronted by whites who attack or ridicule them, or deny the truth of the genocide that wiped out so many children.

Help us to protect the lives of survivors and defend the truth of Canada's mass murder of children!

To participate in the protest, show up on Wednesday, November 17 at 5 pm in Room 155 of the Irving K. Barber Learning Center at UBC.
