Richard Senate "Ghosts of Southern California."

In "Ghosts of Southern California" leading ghost researcher and author Richard Senate discusses how a personal encounter with a ghost transformed him from archeological student to a lifetime of professional ghost hunting.  Senate describes how he was visiting an old mission in southern California to do research when he suddenly saw a ghostly monk.  The monk looked so solid, it didn't even occur to him that it was a ghost until suddenly, the figure disappeared.  Senate was hooked.  He began researching local hauntings and soon uncovered many cases.  Senate describes some of his more exciting cases.  He describes why hotels are probably the most haunted of all structures, and tells some chilling stories of the Roosevelt hotel.  He also presents several other firsthand cases, including several in which he had further encounters during seances.  Even more interesting, Senate discusses the various theories for ghosts, such as the possibility that many hauntings are actually not ghosts at all, but rather a "window to the past" or a "residual haunting."  The phenomenon of gosts is not always as simple as it seems.  If you want to truly understand ghosts, Senate is definitely one of the world's expert researchers.
