At age 13, I pointed a knife at my drunken bi-polar stepfather, while my mother lay on the floor with broken glass pressed into her chest. Would this be the night I couldn’t keep her alive or I would die? For most of my teens I lived with a mother who chose alcohol and a cycle of abuse over protecting me and I sought my own escape down dark paths filled with bad decisions."
