Subject: UK forcasters told to put positive spin on weather reports
Date: October 5, 2005 at 2:05 pm PST
Well, if you didn't think they were glossing over the weather anomolies already, now forcasters have been given official guidelines as to how to make forcasts seem more positive. QUOTE: ' The move could mean that forecasts will predict a "mainly dry" day "instead of "patchy rain", or say that it will be "warm for most of the day" instead of "chilly in isolated, coastal areas". Viewers can also look forward to "a generally clear outlook" instead of "occasional showers" and "isolated storms". As well as using less scientific language, forecasters are also being urged not to "over-dramatise" their broadcasts by focusing on bad weather in remote areas. They have also been asked not to start a forecast with a bleak outlook if the majority of the country is expected to be fine. '
