Hurricane Hits Norway 20-Sep-2005 Hurricane Maria moved across the Atlantic and, still intact as a category 1 hurricane, struck the coast of Norway on September 15, causing widespread flooding and leaving one person dead.
Maria hit the western shores of Scandinavia with winds of 60 miles an hour. "The hurricane didn't touch the American coasts and has therefore maintained a large portion of its energy as it crossed the Atlantic," the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute said in a public advisory on its website. The Finnish Meteorological Institute also issued a storm warning for the northern part of the Baltic Sea, and passenger ferries between Helsinki and Estonia were docked to avoid the high seas. The hurricane was expected to sweep over the south and southeast of Finland Wednesday evening, and FMI warned that it could also cause flooding inland. It is extremely unusual for hurricanes to remain intact all the way into cold northern waters. Who warned you first about wacky weather ? And where did Whitley get his information?
