"Peace through conquest, work in joy. These are waiting for us beyond the line where empires are setup against other empires, in an interior totalisation of the world upon itself, in the unanimous construction of a spirit of the earth." ~Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin believed in a rational common passion (affective attraction") that would unite humanity and manifest itself in a utopian world were everyone was in communication with the 'Spirit of the earth' (The Gaia Hypothesis ). Affective attraction is essentially a unified emotional discharge of energy by Gaias human inhabitants. And in a very robust fashion an example of this energy may have been recorded by an EGG device of the Global Consciousness Project just prior and during the terrorists attack on the World Trade Center. Are we closing in on another perverted form of "affective attraction"? Recent (5/4/05) UN warning , national media news, news gathering web sites (private and corporate) and books do suggest a global rising of consciousness regarding global catastrophe (Nuclear Weapons: Iran & North Korea). Even the History Channel has noted this rising current of interest in apocalyptic prophesy (Countdown To Armageddon April 24 2005: 4pm EDT~Interesting production date). Can it all happen? Of course it can, but we should not let that possibility stop us from 'Living In The Now'.
Is the Global Collective attracted to the horrific and morbid? Do we find death, car wrecks and the human cost of war more fascinating than enchanting forest scenery. One could say that our fascination with the horrific is due to our desire to offer aid, but that seems a rather flimsy argument for the rubber necker's morbid curiosity regarding the mangled vehicles and bodies strewn along a highway. At some level we all start with the thought 'I am horrified by my perverse appetite for the horrific...' and then in a moment of random honesty we add: 'and that horror is joyously horrendous.' Then again, maybe at some level it is the hidden hero in all of us that is searching out a chance for expression. While we patiently wait and wait and wait for that chance, many unsung heros have decided to protect and honorour beautiful planet. This is the type of news you are not likely to find on the Drudge Report unless there is some negative attachment. How can we possibly achieve Chardin's vision if we insist on turning our Mother Earth into a sewer? How can we turn Affective Attraction toward the peace and human evolution ('noogenesis') that is reflective of our divinity? Some people have taken action by collaborative effort in meditation.
On May 8th when we celebrate the 'Mother' that gave each of us life we could also spend a moment reflecting on Gaia, The Mother Of All Life, and our birthright (Rhea). One step towards honoring the mother is to acknowlege our own unity with The Spirit Of Planet Earth. We offer the following affirmation as a step away from the horrific toward the Heroic.
I Am
I am Sunlight and Shadow,
The Dream and the Dreamer,
The Rainbow on Midsummers Day.
I am the Cry of the Wolf in the stillness of night,
And the Rabbit nestled safe in my burrow.
I am the Eagle that soars,
And the World viewed below me.
I am a delicate flower,
And the thorns that stand guard.
I am Predator and Prey
And constantly changing, creating new rules as I grow.
I am Camouflage and Beacon in each measure of time,
For I am Life,
And I walk the Green Way.
The emotional (magnetic) experience that draws us to repeat the experience of discovering or rediscovering human potential comes in many forms and is ignited by curiosity, our sense of adventure and willingness to risk. Some of us perceive ourselves to be incapable of heroism because we lack the skill and prowess of the story book 'Hero' such as Jet Li. However, this type of characterization is pure glitz and pales in the wake of the real hero as portrayed by Dustin Hoffman in the movie 'Hero'. For those seeking the heroic path you might start with some net reading about real life 'every day heros' or the book by Carol S. Pearson 'The Hero Within'. To fully engage heroic paths you might want to visit the web site of the National Association for Self Esteem or some on-line self esteem testing and seminars. For those who are ready for action, consider reading "Way Of The Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman or visit his web site. And for everyone we highly recommend a stop at Ralph Marston's Positive Pause.
Wishing you a cool head and a warm heart,
