If we use the national media as a yard stick one might conclude that the deaths of a woman in Florida and one man in Rome are of major importance and concern to the inhabitants of our little planet.   Fortunately for some, the hysterical frenzy generated by media coverage in Florida was promptly replaced by the pomp and circumstance at the funeral in Rome.  The timing of these two events was almost flawless.  Now there was some media nail biting when it appeared that a royal marriage in England might compete with the circus in Rome, but this was soon dismissed by the heroic action of the aging prince: he delayed the marital event in England.  What a wonderful series of coincidences to provide respite from the ills of the world, not to mention the plight of our neighbors. But now, we have to ask ourselves why is it that in these unstable times so many of us are still attracted to the wealthy and powerful? Or maybe it's just media spin to keep us believing in our concentric illusions.

Is there something in the media that might turn us from our distractions?    The Discovery Channel (1) has developed a movie (showing on Sunday April 10, 2005, 8pm EST) regarding the effects of a super volcano eruption such as is waiting in the bowels of Yellow Stone Park.  Now exactly how does one prepare for such a cataclysmic event?  The reality is that these types of events have a way of sneaking up on humans regardless of their pains-taking preparations.  As a simple example, a fortune could be spent in the attempt to escape all possible 'what if scenarios' only to find death has been waiting around the next curve in the highway in the guise of a drunk driver.  Maybe it is time to come to terms not with our illusion of death but the reality of our divinity. One possible solution to this dilemma is to precede all preparatory activities with a simple meditative statement reflecting the truth of our divinity. We offer the following as an example:

May The Light Of Our Being Transform Fear Into Compassion
And Aggression Into Peace.
With Joy We Celebrate The Spark That Unites Us,
As One Flame We Burst Into Brillance
and shall not be extinguished.

For those who may be interested in pursing spiritual preparation the web site of Bruce Mowen may be of use.  Mowen's foundation began with the work of Robert Monroe.

And for those who follow the path of the warrior you might rehearse the Viking Death Prayer from the movie 'The 13th Warrior'.

Lo' There Do I See My Father
Lo'  There Do I See My Mother, My Sisters and My Brothers
Lo' There Do I See The Line Of My People Back To The Beginning
Lo' They Do Call To Me
They Bid Me Take My Place Among Them In The Halls Of Valhalla
Where The Brave May Live- Forever!

And for the child, you may have them rehearse the following:

Fear is dark and cannot stay when light shines in to show my way.
