Dave Blume started his ecological training
at a young age. He and his father organically grew almost
all the food their family ate. This wouldn't be unusual
out in a rural setting nowadays, but they did this on a
city lot in San Francisco in the mid-sixties!
Dave taught his first ecology class in 1970. He majored
in Ecological Biology and Biosystematics at San
Francisco State University while doing volunteer
fieldwork with a number of non-profits like the Point
Reyes Bird Observatory. He put himself through
school by teaching backpacking and wildlife biology through
open universities during the summers.
In
1978, he was employed by NASA to work on
an experimental solar self-sufficient energy, sewage treatment,
desalinization plant in the Virgin Islands. After solving
many previously persistent problems in this system, he went
to work for the Mother Earth News Eco Village
in North Carolina where he worked in a team using alternative
building techniques. There he constructed a number of unique
structures, like a cordwood half dome, that was used as
the back half of a greenhouse. He also worked extensively
with their alternative energy projects.
When
the energy crisis of 1978-9 struck, Dave started the American
Homegrown Fuel Co. Inc. It was an educational organization
teaching farmers and others how to produce and use low cost
alcohol fuel at home or on the farm. Alcohol, a renewable
and virtually pollution-free fuel, is used in place of gasoline
in automobile engines. AHGF became a small corporation with
15 employees. Dave taught 180 workshops to 7,000 people
over a two year period while appearing over 1000 times in
print, radio and television.
PBS
then asked Dave to put his workshop on television. He spent
two years working with PBS to make the 10 part series Alcohol
as Fuel, which aired in 1983. To accompany the
series he wrote the comprehensive manual on the subject,
Alcohol Can Be A Gas! The book and series
were so powerful that shortly after the series began to
air in San Francisco oil companies threatened to pull out
their funding if the series was released to the rest of
the PBS network!! PBS caved in and halted the distribution
of the series and book.

Ron
Dante is one star in the entertainment business that
doesn't need a press agent to hype his many accomplishments.
He has a room full of platinum albums and Grammy, Clio and
Tony Awards to do his talking for him. Ron Dante is probably
best known for his work as a producer for Barry Manilow,
Cher, Dionne Warwick, Pat Benatar, Irene Cara, Ray Charles,
John Denver, and other major recording artists. He was the
driving force behind Barry Manilow's greatest successes.
Their collaboration spawned one hit after another. Dante
produced songs that have become landmarks on the pop music
scene including "Mandy," "I Write the Songs," the Grammy
winning "Copacabana," "Could It Be Magic" and others. During
a tumultuous decade in the record industry in which many
stars faded and new ones flickered, Dante's firm guidance
helped Manilow achieve unparalleled success. The Dante produced

Margaret Cho
was born December 5, 1968 and raised in San Francisco. "It
was different than any other place on Earth," she says.
"I grew up and went to grammar school on Haight Street during
the '70s. There were old hippies, ex-druggies, burnouts
from the '60s, drag queens, and Chinese people. To say it
was a melting pot - that's the least of it. It was a really

in that show, and so much importance put on the fact that
it was an ethnic show. It's hard to pin down what "ethnic"
is without appearing to be racist. And then, for fear of
being too "ethnic," it got so watered down for television
that by the end, it was completely lacking in the essence
of what I am and what I do. I learned a lot, though. It
was a good experience as far as finding myself, knowing
who I was and what direction I wanted to take with my comedy.
Thirteen
years after her catastrophic foray into television, Margaret
is triumphantly returning to TV on her own terms, in her
new Vh1 series, The Cho Show. Describing it as a 'reality
sitcom,' Margaret says, "It's the closest I've been able

myself: My name is Leyton Cougar, and I am the Director
of Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary.
I grew up an animal lover. Fortunately, for most of my life
I have had the opportunity to be around hundreds of animals,
both wild and domestic, of all shapes, sizes and temperments.
Most animal lovers are a little eccentric, deranged or even
a little nuts. I am no exception, and in fact, am quite
possibly all of the above. Of course, that is probably why
I have given up the "normal life" to live in the woods on
the edge of nowhere - you can see the middle of nowhere
from here - with my wife and small child. We live without
electricity or running water in a small (really small) two
room log house. We chop wood for heat, haul water for showers
and cooking, trudge through mud and snow, all while earning
less than minimum wage. For what? So I can help a few wolves
out of bad situations and teach people that wild animals
are not pets.
Throughout
the years, we have made many great changes to our Sanctuary,
but our mission remains the same: Rescue, Sanctuary, and
Education. It is my personal goal to fulfill that mission
to the utmost degree. I have a deeply embedded passion for
wolves. This includes all wolves, wild or captive.
I am most passionate, though, about those wolves that are
bred by humans and all too often left with no hope for escape
from the torment of environments in which they are held
captive.
To
me, the bottom line is this: America needs rescues as well
as permanent, peaceful, safe sanctuaries for its suffering,
captive-wild animal population. More than anything, though,
it needs better wildlife education.
So
why do I live in a cabin on the edge of nowhere?
Because
my passion and my commitment is to the wolves of Wild Spirit
Wolf Sanctuary and to educating the world about our mission
and our work.

up in Linden, NJ, spent 2 years at Rutgers University, and
then received his BSc. and MSc. degrees in physics from
the University of Chicago in 1955 and 1956. He was employed

After 2 years of studies and 1000 hours of internship a
the California Hypnosis Motivation Institute, the only accredited
hypnosis college in the United States, she received her
hypnotherapy certification in 1990. Specializing in cases
of post traumatic stress disorder, she used her hypnotherapy
skills to assist such victims to work through their anxiety.
[Many of her subjects are referred to her by physicians

NY. During that time I attended Greater Plains Elementary,
Oneonta Middle School, and Oneonta High School. I was a
normal kid, played sports, took vacations, worked for my
father on the weekends. At 18 for no apparent reason I joined
the Army. I guess for a way out of my home town. Joined
and not even six months later I found my self in a fox hole
in Kandahar, Afghanistan (January 14th 2002 to July 15th
2002).

In May 2002, after spending three months doing construction
work on Vines, I had a half hour conversation with James
Gandolfini at the opening party. To make a long, drawn out
conversation short, James told me, If you want to be a
successful director, you have to have something to say to
the world. It was that month that I began writing Loose
Change, a fictional story about my friends and I discovering
that September 11th was not a terrorist attack, but rather,
an attack by their own government.
Upon
researching for the movie, it became apparant that the subject
matter may not have been entirely fiction. Over two years
time, adding more and more information, the fictional movie
evolved into what it is today; a documentary. In May 2004,
I moved down to Washington, DC, at the time when Loose
Change was beginning to take shape. Bouncing from couch
to couch, technically homeless, eventually landing a job
and an apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland, the entire
time I worked on the documentary with every spare moment
and dollar to my name. In January 2005, DJ Skooly moved
into my apartment fresh out of Los Angeles, and donated
a rich soundtrack and recording equipment which is responsible
for Loose Changes unique presentation. In June 2005,
my best friend Korey departed from the United States Armed
Forces to come support the cause, and by July 2005, after
a trip to California to visit KPFK 90.7 FM and Sofia Shafquat,
it was apparant that Loose Change had taken on a life of
its own. The rest, as they say, is history.

Representative Julio Robaina is at the forefront in establishing
new laws to protect the rights of Florida consumers, including

1. Ann writes The Leadership Blog and a bimonthly eZine,
Power at Work. Ann is a member of the Board of Directors
of The Antelope Valley Chambers of Commerce. She is currently
coordinating a Chamber effort to develop a Community Leadership
program and from 2003-2006, chaired the Chamber's Business
Education and Services Committee.
