Cyndi Smith was born and raised in California. At the age of 18 she was involved in a serious car accident; breaking her neck in 3 places, her lower back in two, her pelvis and femur. An experience in the light was her saving grace and literally changed her entire view on life. With a great desire to live more fully, she has traveled extensively and lived in New York City, London England and currently resides in Connecticut.
She attended Richmond University in London for a degree in Psychology and Communication and many years later completed her degree as a Holistic Health Counselor with the Integrative Institute of Nutrition in New York City.
As a Mother of twin boys, she managed to make the most of her spare time and volunteered with the National Spinal Cord Injury Association Connecticut Chapter and Branford Hospice in the Spiritual Care Department.
Taking her dreams one step further, Cyndi created and developed a television series show, which she hopes to air nationwide – called the Freedom to Travel Show.
You can find out more about her, and her show at www.freedomtotravelshow.com

My name is Cyndi Smith and I am the Executive Producer and Host of a television series called the Freedom to Travel Show. It is a television series where I bring a guest who is disabled to a travel destination that is totally accessible and in each show I highlight my guest's achievements and attitudes—around his or her disability while educating my viewers on it. This radio program is an extension of it—in that we are traveling, but not in the literal sense.
Instead, we will be traveling deep into our hearts, enhancing our love, connection and understanding of one another. This is a journey into a heightened awareness and a new perspective or outlook on issues of disabilities. It is a voyage taking you into a new dimension of yourself—creating a natural shift of awareness and nourishing a part of you that felt empty before. | | | | ~ Sunday, April 6th 2008 ~ Sanford Rosenthal
Sanford Rosenthal, Executive Director and one of the Authors, of Behind Our Eyes - Stories, Poems and Essays from Writers with Disabilities. Listen to this charming man answer questions (that you always wanted to know) about what it's like to be blind. For example: what is he attracted to in a woman? And enjoy a reading from his book, and fall in love with him, just the way everyone else seems to be doing!
Sanford Rosenthal ~ It was the dead of winter 1950 when I, Sanford Rosenthal, came bouncing in to the crazy world of Brooklyn, New York. Dealing with going blind became easier once the diagnosis was made at age 10. I knew why I was a little different than others, finally.
Driving wasn't fun anymore, once the eyesight closed in too much past the point of legal blindness. Traveling to farther points became easier after partnering with a dog guide at age 26, which was a month after I gave up driving.
Today I am employed part time with PAIRS, which is a relationships skills training organization. I also have developed a writer's workshop for persons with disabilities. We have a list site and meet up on teleconferences routinely. Behind Our Eyes is the book 27 of us published. It is all aimed at getting our stories out there for greater understanding between the public and persons with disabilities. I hope we can publish more books because I know there are more stories to tell.
| | | ~ Sunday, April 20th 2008 ~ Kathie Snow
| Kathie Snow will share a new way of thinking about disabilities, and then some! All you have to do is glance at her website, www.disabilityisnatural.com, to know that there is going to be more then enough to cover!
Kathie is the wife of Mark, the mother of Emily and Benjamin, and a zealous promoter of new ways of thinking about disability. Her book, Disability is Natural: Revolutionary Common Sense for Raising Successful Children with Disabilities, 2nd Edition, is the culmination of 16 years of experience as a public speaker, trainer, and consultant on disability issues. Kathie believes it's time for new perspectives about disability, and she created the Bowl of Apples logo to illustrate that just as a green apple is more like red apples than different, individuals with disabilities are more like people without disabilities than different. In addition to her book, Kathie has produced an enlightening and provocative video, and a line of products and a variety of articles—new ones are added regularly—to share the revolutionary common sense that disability is natural!
~Testimonials ~ Cyndi, Today in America I sense a deep loss with our ability to feel allegiance and respect for heros. We used to have them. Now it seems to me that this new age of information lets us see beyond the obvious. Media stars, political statesmen, and leaders, present and in the past are not immune from our prying eyes. The silver lining may be that those previously put on pedestals are really human just like us. What is more, is that others found in our daily lives might be more heroic than we thought. For me your radio show adds credence to this belief as you spotlight the real heros of this world who are dealing with adversity on a daily basis. It was more like a talk in a pub with you. All that was missing was the wine. I think I will have one right now in your honor. ~ Sanford Rosenthal
Some of the most brilliant, aware, creative, compassionate and courageous souls I've known are those who are regarded as 'disabled'. Yet these are the ones who rise above great challenges and apparent adversity with such nobleness of spirit and a passion that's so enduring. With the Freedom to Travel Show, Cyndi does an exquisite job at shining the light on these gems and bridging the gap that's kept people in the dark for far too long. She's enabling everyone to travel to new heights of awareness and arrive at a place of tremendous love and a depth of understanding formerly unattainable due to the stigma imposed by fear. I am deeply honoured to have Cyndi as a friend and colleague and I am forever grateful for her wonderful work. ~ Rev. Juliet Nightingale, Toward The Light
