Here is the part you store away and forget; 25 - 50 lb. bags of Millet [breakfast; like oatmeal], Rice [UNMILLED!], Beans[like pinto, lima,], Corn[for corn bread], Wheat[can cook and eat whole wheat berries or grind for bread]. Honey [in cans]. Go heavy on the rice and beans. You could go a LONG time on just this! All this will last for 25 years+ if stored out of the heat. Other items like canned Chili, peanut butter, soup - you buy by the case and keep using the first - rotate. Another thing to stock up on as a crisis hits is potatoes - they last for months just sitting there. Then you add the stuff that you personally like with an eye to it`s shelf life [cocoa, dried milk]. Grinding grain is difficult without the tool so eventually check the health food stores for that item. If you have the space and time, I suggest "playing" at gardening in summer to learn and experience failure when it doesn`t count! 2+ 5gal. containers of water stored for sudden power failure. Where I live now is to harsh, but fruit trees and berries are a blessing in your yard. I think they will use food as a weapon [Russia 1919 -21& Ukraine; 13 million died of starvation] People were eating shoe leather and knawing at the paint on door jambs![ Ah, the things they don`t tell you.] The "Blonde" chickens [Buff Orpingtons] are the one`s that can withstand the extreme cold winter. All the above I actually tested - experienced. |
