NOTES ON FOOD STORAGE

With many people becoming aware that all is not well with the 'civilization' it is becoming obvious that food will become of paramount importance if you don't feel like begging GMO handouts from various FEMA-like organizations around the western world.
1. Don't store hybrid seeds!
2. Don't store seeds of things you don't know how to grow. This means rice for most people. its that old 'feed a man a fish thing'.
3. For most areas of the world there are two main 'green/grains' that you might as well get used to eating now:
Quinoa http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/0,1523,74,00.html
Amaranth http://chetday.com/amaranth.html
They are very easy to grow in poor, dry soils (mainly needing irrigation when very young). The greens can be eaten throughout the growing season and are very tasty. The seeds from both can be eaten boiled (about 10 minutes each! compared to rice at 40 minutes....), in stews or can be ground to make flat breads.
In hot areas (Juan!) amaranth will go 'weedy'...good, let it, that way you don't have to bother planting it, just harvest it!
Now I also have a plant to reccomend for pretty much everyone, everywhere. It is an amazing thing (Cliff...you can order it from Northwoods Nursery) and even if it doesn't all fall to poop its still 2-3x the price per pound than blueberries...with double the anti-oxidant value!
Chinese Wolfberry... http://www.richnature.com/products/herbal/wolfberry.htm
If we are facing a crisis of epic proportion...might as well do it in style and healthily!
