Ottawa mayor charged with bribery:
"Political ripples spread to Parliament Hill as Ottawa Mayor Larry O'Brien was charged yesterday with trying to bribe a former mayorality candidate in 2006.
"While local councillors were challenging O'Brien's right to stay in office with criminal charges hanging over him, opposition critics were calling for Environment Minister John Baird's resignation for his alleged role in the scheme.
"O'Brien has been charged following an eight-month OPP investigation into allegations he offered inducements to former nayoral candidate Terry Kilrea to leave the race."
