In Response To: BLACKENED SHARDS (Douglas Newsom)
I love the image of blackened shards. When i think of shards I think of shrapnel or something inanimate, so for me it really spoke to how we as a society are at odds with the natural world, and how artificial constraints try to place barrier in front of our soul desire, our dreams. It also reminded me of the Langston Hughes poem "A Dream Deferred", and i like how it ended the way it began.
: BLACKENED SHARDS
: Dreams, shattering;
: And blackened shards are sent scattering
: to the four winds.
: Who's to blame? And what cause has justice herein done,
: when seeds turn black on fertile ground,
: just scarred remains,
: when cause and act down trod and shame;
: nothing grows, but who's to blame?
: A cycle ends from root to stem.
: And blackened shards are sent scattering
: to the four winds.
